Family friendly outing: Children's Season - Singapore Philatelic Museum
June holiday was a season of funfilled family friendly museum trips for the kiddos. We had been bringing the little ones museum hopping the entire month, appreciating exhibits and the kids enjoyed some of the hands on crafts and games.
The Singapore Philatelic Museum is hosting The League Against Evil till 31 August 2014, and there are various workshops and exhibits where young and old will appreciate. During this season, there is a section exhibiting stamps and figurines of super heroes and is a great opportunity for photo taking.
There are also workshops such as 3D modeling concepts, Draw your own super heroes workshops and Pose and Post opportunities. Some of these workshops charges and fee, but the exhibits and museum entrance is free for permanent residents and local citizens.
Apart from The League Against Evil, there are also many other stamps exhibits on display and is an eye opening stamp appreciating session.
We learnt that the word Philately originates from greek, Philos means "love" and ateleia means "paid or tax free". Thus a mail with stamp symbolizes that the postage is paid or taxed. As every country creates their unique stamp designs, overtime these collections forms records of historical and cultural traces of the country.
Interestingly, we were amazed with the creativity and various unique designs of the stamps available all over the world and learnt to appreciate the beauty and art different countries are well known for.
We came across stamps that glow in the dark, stamps with gold emboss, stamps with fragrance such as chocolate or floral, stamps with hologram designs and even stamps that are 3D.
One of my favorite local stamp is the glow in the dark as well as the local food fare series displaying very adorable bao and kway tutu.
Another unforgettable classic beauty is none other than the Queen's Diamond Jubilee displaying Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown with a diamond emboss.
Can you spot the diamond in the picture?
This is definitely a great family outing location for both young and old. Do drop by to spend a quality afternoon with your family!
