Neighbourhood cafe: J's Wok and Grill
This holiday season, we've been scouting neighborhood area for affordable and cozy restaurants to eat out. Lately, we came across two interesting cafes and will be sharing here and a subsequent post.
We chanced upon JWG - J's Wok and Grill recently as we were driving around looking for new breakfast eateries and traveling along Bedok North Ave 2 and 3. JWG caught our attention, this café is located at Block 527, Bedok North Ave 3.
This is a small neighbor café, situated in the heartland just below a HDB block and is Halal certified. The service is warm and helpful, and the food is relatively more affordable than restaurants in the shopping malls or town area, perhaps due to it's cheaper rental costs. This café also has a second level function room which has an accommodation capacity of up to 60 persons, and the function room is available with a booking of JWG's buffet catering.
Lately they are running a very attractive promotion whereby selected popular items in the menu are at 50% of normal pricing every Tuesdays to Fridays between 12-5pm.
We planned a lunch on one of the weekdays recently, which we ordered 4 main courses, a chocolate cake slice and a coffee and the bill totaled less than S$45, thanks to the lunch promotion.
The quality of the food is average and the serving sizes are just right. The restaurant offers both Asian and Western options, thus you could find Asian dishes such as fried rice and Hor Fun in the menu.
I ordered a lamb shank, and was pleasantly surprised that the vegetable option is boiled Kai Lan, a healthier option to coleslaw that we usually see. The lamb is quite well prepared without the overpowering lamb smell that we usually encounter, the shank is tender and juicy.
My hubby had a chicken chop, and the chop is quite well marinated and is juicy and tender to taste.
After the main course, we washed down our gluttony with a rich, smooth chocolate fudge cake together with an aromatic strong sugarless black coffee which was a superb pairing.
We promised we will be back to try out the other options !
