Trip to Colmar Tropicale
One of the holiday trip we made earlier this year was to a French themed hotel resort, Colmar Tropicale at Berjaya Hills. Interestingly, this resort though in the middle of a mountain, is a rather complete little paradise with activities for the entire family.
Colmar Tropicale resides very close to Genting, another very popular holiday location in Malaysia, and is just about an hour slow drive down and uphill to reach Genting. Some may ask, why am I opting for Colmar Tropicale instead of just putting up at Genting? Well, firstly I would like to bring the family to somewhere less crowded, as well as experience a themed resort for a change. In addition, perhaps having listened to too many "interesting" stories, I am a little over protective of my little ones, and a little paranoid about staying overnight in Genting hotels. Haha, yeah I have to admit I am a scaredy cat especially when any spiritual unknowns are involved.
Anyhow, I have included some pictures taken and briefly walk through some of the facilities available.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very beautiful and unique view of the Chateau and the French theme resort itself.
Once we alighted, the children were ran out to the balcony of the reception area, and marveled at the view of the swans swimming around the moat of the hotel.
We initially booked a family room, but we eventually switched to a two bedroom suite, as we realized that is much bigger, brighter and best of all, newly renovated. Thus, for any families that are traveling there for a visit, you may want to consider a two bedroom suite or two bedroom deluxe for more comfort.
The rooms were both huge and nicely furnish, and best of all, the master bedroom was overlooking the moat. My kids were pampered with a beautiful view of the chateau and swans early in the morning!
As the hotel is not overwhelmingly crowded, breakfast servings and seats are quite comfortably available. The international breakfast spread serves both Asian and Western selections, such as Nasi Lemak, porridge, toasts, cereals and more.
The resort has quite a number of facilities around it's vicinity, some of which are best traveled with either hotel shuttles or car. A short drive downhill, you will come across a small animal park where there's rabbits and deer feeding. Followed by horse riding trails a little further down.
A little further from just the exit of the resort, you will come across the paintball war zone, as well as an organic farm. There is also an Adventure park offering canopy walks, rock climbing. About 5-10 minutes drive uphill, you will come across a pretty Japanese Village, where kimono photo shoot and tea ceremony are available to visitors, and there is also a Japanese Spa house and restaurant within the village.
Further downhill, there are other facilities such as the bowling alley and tennis court.
Within the resort compound, there are also some stage shows happening at a few hours interval, visitors just need to lookout for the timing and grab a seat to enjoy the shows at the open stage.
There are also other shops and facilities available. You will come across an arcade games facility, some fun fair game stands and kiddy rides around the compound. In the day, there are also little craft shops where kids can enjoy some sand art or colorings.
The environment is peaceful, but weather is warm just like any other areas within Malaysia. However, in the evening, the weather is cooling and great for a drink and chat in the bar.
We had a great time visiting some of the facilities around and a comfortable stay at the hotel. In addition, as this location is very near to Genting, we even spent a day with the kids at the theme park there and made our way back to Colmar for the night.
It was a nice short holiday away from the hot bustle busy home and we will probably plan another trip there next year.
Work hard and play hard! :)
