Rockclimbing @ The Rock School

At the last week of June holiday, I decided to bring Joel for some interesting activities to wrap up this month.

It had been in my parking lot agenda to bring him for a trial at one of the branch of The Rock School, just residing at Bedok Community Center nearby. I was lucky to be able to reserve a slot  just a day before for a 2pm for a Fun Climb.  It is a 2 hour programme which the kids will get to learn some basics of rock climbing and have fun combing the walls.

The Rock School: warm up games
The instructor started the programme with a brief self introduction and explanation on some of the wall safety signs. Then they proceeded to warm up and team building games which are creatively done using a huge colorful mat and some soft toys. Towards the last exercise, the children are required to climb the walls, as failure to do so, they will be "caught by the sharks" that are down at the sea (Which is the instructor himself). The children were really caught up by the excitement of this game and all scurried up to the walls as fast as they could!

The Rock School: Boulder Gym drills

Very smoothly the program  proceeded
to the boulder gym walls, and the children
are asked to perform several drills, each
rounds with increasing obstacles added. They had to comb the walls going through rings and over soft little obstacle poles without kicking them off the walls. I was amazed how much energy these little kids have! As they could really climb non stop for an hour plus!

As the children gets more comfortable with the climbings, they get to enjoy a short break before putting on safety harness and proceeded to the outdoor walls .  Each kid gets a few turns to conquer the outdoor walls and are encouraged go as high as they could, and are also thought how to "walk down" the walls safely.

Enclosed a video of the indoor boulder gym.

I hope this video gives a good idea of what I had shared and for anyone interested in the course, you may visit this site http://therockschool.sg/  for more details, and I hope your kid will benefit as much as mine did, as this programme not only is a good avenue to develop the kids mobility and muscles, it also trains the kid's preseverance and possibly challenges your child's limit to any height phobia. However, you may want to standby some Tiger Balm muscle creams, in case your kid complains of any muscle fatigue at the end of the day. Haha.

Have fun!
