Fertility Challenges

Stress has always been part and parcel of woman’s lifestyle and health baggage today. Many of us, consciously or subconsciously, encounter fatigue, stress, and anxieties at some point. This could be worse for those of us whom are trying to conceive and encountered ovulation issue due to stress that even ourselves may not be conscious of.

I recalled I was trying to conceive 5 years ago, I was going through job transition with a change of scope, and was under tremendous work stress. Despite the stress, oblivious of any fertility criteria, I tried to conceive! I spent hundreds of dollars on pregnancy test kit and ovulation kit month after month, both with negative results! These kits do not come cheap, and after almost half a year, I got even more depressed. Finally a colleague suggested I seek help from a gynecology. Which I eventually did, after much consideration. I was put on clomid, as I was not even ovulating, much less getting pregnant. I got pregnant on first try after that!

On my second pregnancy, again, I sought help from the same gynea, whom again placed me on clomid. However, this round the effect was not so smooth, my cervical mucus remained dry after first round of clomid. Getting desperate, I searched the web for tips, and encountered a few sites that gave some very useful and interesting tips. It’s mentioned that clomid can cause hostile mucus in some woman (mucus that are thick and not too conducive for live sperm traveling) , and guaifenesin which is an active component in Robitussin (Yes Robitussin the over the counter cough syrup) would be able to thin out these cervical mucus (Just like it did for phlegm). I tried the formula, and I guess with too much success, I ended up with twins. However, there are some mention that one of the active component destromethorphan, may be linked to some birth defects such as cleft palate etc. Thus, do consult a physician before applying any of these tips.

I have enclosed some useful links, and sincerely hope this will help anyone whom is trying to conceive.
